I always thought it was interesting and I've read his website stuff. Do any of you think that he has a point and it won't be taught because of the old guard and the fact they don't know how to teach it? Is it possible that his way does work?

Mike Marshall was probably the only guy slower than Jody Davis.

I didn't see the thing on HBO, but didn't Marshall (not the one above) say that Prior's mechanics were all out of whack long before he actually hit the DL?

What is "it".

I think it's been pointed out a number of times that if Marshall's methods were as badass effective as claimed we'd be seeing a ton of flamethrowing Marshall-ites in the majors by now. They mentioned one major leaguer who tried it (I forgot who it was) but his numbers before or after were nothing exceptional.

But who knows, I sure don't.

Jeff Sparks? I found this funny:

"But," he added quickly, "I could pitch in the big leagues right now. I'm good. Plain and simple. I'm better today than I was in '99, 2000."

In March, Sparks went to the Detroit Tigers tryout camp for the sixth consecutive year. The scout's radar gun had him at 83 mph. He's certain it was slow and thinks he can top out in the high 80s.

"I don't know why they don't sign me," Sparks said. "Maybe it is a conspiracy against Mike."

Marshall nodded.

"Put it this way," Sparks said. "If this way of throwing becomes the mainstream, what does every pitching coach who has been preaching the traditional pitching motion forever and has no idea how to teach this have?"

Sparks smiled, then chuckled.

"No job."

that's because all of the guys who go try out marshall's system are basically non-prospects who are looking to try something different to be able to play in college or indy ball, maybe get a shot in the pros. when you've got a bunch of guys coming to you whose fastballs are topping out in the 70s, there's only so much you can do. eventually talent wins out.

let me follow that up with saying that he deserves a shot to prove himself. i think the same baseball insiders that keep stat geeks out are the same guys that have blacklisted marshall. his motion may work for some, but i wouldn't say it works for everyone.

the segment after on lenny dykstra was cool, too. i love that guy, he's like forrest gump. he was the quintessential ballplayer--and i don't mean gritty. he could just play, like billy beane said in moneyball.

i also have absolutely no doubt in my mind that he used a lot of steroids. the man simply looks like he's 70 years old.

oh yeah, he is pretty much a walking advertisement for the steroid era
