We still can't hit them, I have a feeling teams will bring up wrong handers from the minors to face the Cubs, yesterday and today left-handers really handcuffed us.

It was getting so annoying for me that now when they struggle against left-handers I just laugh, just as if they were getting blowed out and I lost all interest. Maybe Hendry will get some more left-handed hitting to correct the problem.

Not hitting lefties has always been a mystery since the Cubs are (and have been) predominantly a right-handed hitting team.

And it's not like many of them have significant splits. Lee had a 1.015 OPS against left-handers last year. Ramirez had a 1.220. Theriot was at .797. DeRosa and Soriano typically are better against left-handers than right-handers, but they weren't last year.

If they can find a platoon partner for Pie, there is absolutely no reason for them to struggle against left-handers. By all reason, they should hit left-handers the hardest.

You could make the argument that a lack of LH bat in the lineup contributed to that at least a little bit.

You could, but if you did, you would be stupid.

I don't know. If a lefty only sees righties, which left handed pitchers see for the most part obviously, than it would be easier for him to get in a rhythm. If a team doesn't have a good left handed hitting hitter to change up the pitchers rhythm than a left handed pitcher can be very successful against right handers. I think a lefty righty match up would mess up a right handed pitcher to left handed hitter than vice versa because a right handed pitcher sees left handed hitters less.

which is what you see Zach Duke, Doug Davis, Capuano do to us year after year.

i'm not advocating getting lefties like Jacque Jones and Fonenot in the lineup, but I think it helps quite a bit to have a couple LH hitters who can hold their own vs. LHP in the lineup.

Of course, in a perfect world. But going after lefty hitters in order to improve your teams success against lefty pitchers is categorically stupid
