Former Cub Dave Lopes has prostate cancer

Dave Lopes, a former Cub player and current 1B coach of the Phillies, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is expected to make a full recovery. Another former coach, Jerry Martin, will serve as 1B coach during Lopes' absence.

Davey was a fun player to watch and will always be special to me b/c the Cubs traded for him at the end of the 84' season. Topps then published a special variation of his baseball card that said "Now with Cubs" on the front. I bought what felt like dozens of packs of cards before finally finding it, thus completing my collection of 84' Cubs.

I always liked Lopes I remember him as maybe the best base stealer and all around base runner I have seen.

I was thinking about that season as well. Here's to a quick recovery for Davey!

Lopes had a great career. . . his 28 homer season with the Dodgers was awesome. His 86 season with Houston wasn't too shabby for an old guy!
