I love wrasslin fan baseball players.

What Dempster/Millar just did was sell tickets. All of a sudden, a not-so-exciting series has a little meaning.

I love it when people say Dempster sucks. 3 blown saves? Loosens the clubhouse? I'd keep him.

Another clubhouse rapist is the last thing we need.

you know it is spring training, here is a prediction. Demp will be a better starter than a closer, I believe he has learned a lot, probably win 15 with a ERA of 3.55

   and Izturis is going to lead MLB in OBP.

Probably. He does play for the Cardinals now ya know.

I'm a big Dempster fan. he's not the greatest pitcher on the team, but he works hard and has fun while doing it. He and Millar were teamates in Florida for quite a while and are doing a lot to stir up publicity. I love it!

Millar rips Dempster apart.

“If Dempster threw it at my ribs, that means he’s trying to go down and away. He has no command, no control, of any fastball he throws, so he can’t tell anybody where he’s going to throw the baseball. The young man made the (2000) All-Star team with the Fighting Fish (Florida Marlins) because they had to take somebody. The guy’s lived off the 2000 All-Star stuff for many, many, many years and I’m tired of hearing about it.

“He watched the ‘04 World Series. He knows who the Cowboy Up guy is because he was on the couch that year. He hadn’t been to the playoffs, he hadn’t been to the big dance. He was barbequing with his friends and family that year.”

Ouch. That seemed a bit unneccessary.

Question: If Dempster was such a great closer why is Lou moving him to the coveted #6 Starter spot?

Answer: Dempster is a serviceable closer, but it's pretty foolish to keep him there if you have 2 or 3 other relief pitchers who are much better in that role. And out of him ad 2 of those pitchers (Howry and Wood), Dempster currently has the best shot at having a go at starting again. If he succeeds and isn't terrible, the Cubs get some decent starting pitching and/or can trade him.

Actually, I'd be completely in favor of letting the mediocre Dempster get the last 3 outs (assuming he's not as sucky as he was in 07 and is more along the lines of 05-06) and letting our good relievers handle the actual important spots in the game. But that's just me.

Closers are overrated (and stuff).

Agreed, though this doesn't bug me as much since they have so many quality options in the bullpen. I'm hoping Dempster stays in the rotation only if Lou and co. thinks he can string together enough performances to stir some trade interest.

Answer: Because Lou knows Dempster did it last year with Smoke and Mirrors.

Once wasn't enough? You had to post twice?

I've never believed that Dempster is really going to start for us this season. I thought we told him we were gonna try to use him out of the rotation in hopes that by the time he washes out in that regard, Wood has already secured himself the closer's job... which relegates Dempster to middle relief.

This is fun, but the knowledge that Ryan can't back it up on the mound makes it a little uncomfortable too.

Millar can't either. That's part of the funny.
