Yeah, most studies say the difference between the absolute best, and the absolute worst (which no manager even comes close to) is about 2.5 wins a season.

I was under the impression there was about 9.5 runs scored per game last year. Wouldn't that work out pretty closely?

 

At any rate, IIRC, Tom Tango came up with an estimate of about 2.5 wins. I'll go check The Book later though.

Lineups don't really matter, it's about getting the right players into the lineup. But I wonder, I know it says "best" and "worst" lineups, but does this actually account for Dusty Baker level bad lineup construction?

That's what I thought. I also guess my question was poor, because I was thinking more of not playing the correct players at all. But that doesn't have much to do with lineup order construction.
