Probably. I think the Sox might sell him cheap and pick up quite a bit of salary too unlike before when they just gave him away but also didn't give any salary relief.

Why would they do this, and doesn't he have 10-5 rights now?

There's a big uproar about him saying that if they lose it's not the end of the world. I agree with him but many fans are in an uproar about it so it's possible he get moved.

The 10-5 thing would be worked out with the right dollars.

Mind you all, I'm not a Manny fan but he is an impact bat.

I don't think the Sox would move him because of the lunatic fringe.

Same difference, but on further review he also has a full NTC. Do you think the Cubs are in a position to work out an extension for Manny? Does he want to leave Boston?

I think a lot of players would like to play for the Cubs and having Lou here might make it even more attractive.

Certainly interested, depending on what it costs to get him. Big bat to plug into the outfield. Soriano moves to RF, Pie in CF, Manny in LF. Done. Of course, he is 35, so there is some risk of (further) decline. I'd take the chance in a heartbeat.

It depends what Boston wants, and what Manny wants in exchange for waiving his NTC.

That said, I just don't think Boston would move him. He's too productive, and his contract as it is isn't that prohibitive.

If that is our outfield I think we might be defensively better just to have Sori and Manny stay on the bench and let Pie patrol the entire outfied. Not quite Henry Rodriquez, Glenallen Hill, Sammy Sosa bad but...

Was his major decline in BB rate and SLG% this year due to that oblique injury, or it was age (or both)? That would kinda scare me considering he's now 35.

Then again, maybe his postseason so far is showing that his relatively sub-par regular season was mostly injury-related.

Only way I see Boston moving Manny is if they get a major offensive bat to replace him (see Alex Rodriguez). With the lack of production they got from Lugo, Crisp and Drew this season, they absolutely cannot afford to lose Manny's bat without something guaranteed to replace him. Not only does Manny provide offense, but his presence makes Ortiz a better hitter as well.

There's some talk that Boston won't re-sign Lowell either - unless he's at that point in his life/career where the $$ isn't the most important thing to him.

I just don't see Manny being traded in the offseason.

I'd love to have him, but Boston's smart enough to know that the issues Manny brings to the table pale in comparison to some of the other problems their team is having. They're not going to sell him for 80 cents on the dollar.

Considering that factor, I'd rather the Cubs not make that trade.

I've wanted him to be a Cub every year since they placed him on waivers. I'd give them Pie and Marmol to get him.

Yes, really, and here is why:
