If you want an example of a Dusty player who was the offensive polar opposite of Dunn(except speedwise) then look at Randall Simon -- high BA, low OBP, few strikeouts, few walks, and poor power for his position. Simon brought absolutely nothing to the table except a good BA and low K rate, and Dusty loved him, even asked Hendry to bring him back for 2004. Dunn is the perfect anti-Simon at the plate.

But that doesnt change the fact that Dusty has never had a player quite like Dunn. I understand he has favored guys like Simon. Still what would he do if he had a Dunn type on his team has never really been shown before. I think the worse thing that will happen is Dusty will bat him 6th or something like that.

The one I think that is really going to be interesting is Scott Hattieberg (Base Clogging Vet) and Joey Votto (base clogging rookie)

Don't worry; they have the free-swinging nonclogger Jorge Cantu to solve that little problem. Reds fans will tear their hair out as Votto rots on the bench.

The Reds may well have exercised the option to trade him. Forget the Dusty-bashing for a second, but they could have an OF of Hamilton, Bruce and Griffey making Dunn expendable. Hopper is also a Dusty kind of guy (speed and a high BA).

I don't believe they can. I think I read somewhere that there was a clause in his contract that stated the Reds can't deal him until sometime in June if they picked up his option.

Edited to add: This is where I saw it:

Its a no trade clause until June 15th. I'm sure by spring training he'll be wanting to get as far away from Dusty as possible.

If Dunn signed/filed the appropriate paperwork, would he be able to get that lifted, or is that a Player's Union thing?

It can be waived by the player.

Thanks.

I just wonder what Adam Dunn's true feelings are.

I think hes seen that the writing has been on the wall for a long time that hes not going to be there long term. The second they traded Kearns, I'm sure he would do anything to get out of there. At the very least, these no trade clauses are there to force extentions/more $ rather than actually block trades.

I forgot about him. This I think there is proof of how Dusty will handle the situation.

As per Dusty. "I am anxious to get down to fundemental baseball" Does this mean Dunn will be bunting with a man on second??

This should keep qiet all the Dunn man love for at least 7.2 months

I'm thinking it increases the second Dunn complains about getting called out for striking out and clogging the bases in the same sentence.
