Today, the Astros announced that Cooper will remain as their manager, officially removing his interim status.

Link.

Cecil Cooper's managerial tenure began on Aug. 27, but on Friday, his post became permanent when the Astros introduced him as manager -- sans the "interim" label -- during a press conference at Minute Maid Park.

Cooper replaced Phil Garner, who was dismissed last month along with general manager Tim Purpura. The Astros said Cooper was auditioning for the permanent job, but they never began a managerial search and clearly had no intentions of doing so, even as the season was winding down. He received a two-year contract with a club option for the 2010 season.

I've always respected the Astros and what they've been able to accomplish. They deserve better management down there, and hopefully they're getting it. Hopefully they only improve enough to finish behind us by a few less games next year though.
