Huntsville, AL. –Lindsay Gulin pitched a gem of a game Sunday Night to even the North Division Championship Series at two-games with tomorrow nights contest to decide the Northern Division Champion. The series victory will head to Montgomery and take on the Biscuits who wrapped up the South will an impressive 12-5 win over Mississippi earlier in the night.

Donnie Veal struggled with his control in the start. He walked the first two batters he faced and both would score the first run on a Adam Heether single and the second when Brendan Katin sent a sacrifice fly to left.

The Stars continued to grow the lead with a two out rally in the fourth inning. Alcides Escobar singled with two outs and scored on a double by Heether.

Huntsville sent nine to the plate in the sixth adding three more runs charged to reliever Paul Schappert.

Gulin over matched Tennessee’s batters all night pitching a complete game shutout. He walked three Smokies but struck out seven in the win. He also finished the game retiring the last fourth teen to the plate.

The best-of-five Series is now tied at 2-2 and will come down to tomorrow nights decisive game-five at Huntsville’s Joe Davis Stadium. Tennessee will start Mitch Atkins (1-1, 5.54) while the Stars are sending Steve Hammond (7-9, 4.69) the game will start at 8:05 eastern time.

Huntsville lefty tosses 3-hit shutout; Montgomery awaits winner

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Facing elimination, Huntsville pelted the Smokies' pitching staff and rode its crafty lefty.

"How tough is he?" Tennessee manager Pat Listach asked rhetorically of Lindsay Gulin. "We haven't scored off him this year, I don't think. That'll tell you how tough he is."

Actually, Gulin entered Sunday 2-0 with an 0.64 earned-run average against the Smokies. Still, that's tough enough.

A slim crowd of 837 fans watched Gulin strike out the final two Tennessee hitters to put an exclamation mark on the game.

"He was on the mound when we clinched the first half, and he was on the mound when we clinched the second half," Stars manager Don Money said. "He kept them off-balance."

Despite rarely creeping into the 80s on the radar gun, the 30-year-old baffled the Smokies all night by peppering the corners and changing speeds.

Now, tonight is a winner-take-all game for a spot opposite Montgomery in the Southern League Championship Series beginning Wednesday in Montgomery.

"We needed it tonight," Money said. "Our backs were against the wall."

After blowing a comfortable lead on Saturday, the Stars' offense provided another cushion in Game 4.

They sent eight batters to the plate in the first off Donnie Veal, getting one hit, three walks and a sacrifice fly to produce two runs.

It stayed 2-0 until the fourth when Alcides Escobar ripped a two-out single to left and Steve Sollmann brought him home with a double. Huntsville added three more in the sixth off reliever Paul Schappert to pull away. The big blow was Adam Heether's two-run double.

Money completely shook up his lineup Sunday, and it shook up the Smokies' pitching staff in the process. Though Gulin was the story, Huntsville's retooled lineup produced 11 hits, and it helped the Stars earn a spot in tonight's elimination game.
