Per ESPN 1000:

Cubs host Brewers

Cubs visit Cardinals

No word on Brewers vs. Cardinals, but I would be rooting for a stadium implosion.

With the Brewers being so bad away from home, that's a favorable outcome. But if I had to choose between going to Milwaukee or St. Louis with that much on the line... I would choose to go to Milwaukee in a heartbeat. We always play well up there...we would have a much greater fan support up there...and I just don't want to play anywhere near St. Louis in October.

Ok I was slightly wrong, look a few posts down for a more correct post about it.

3-way tie scenarios ?

I believe 3 way ties come down to record against each other, the Brewers would lose out and the team with the better record between the Cubs and Cardinals would take it.

Would the Cubs and Cards play the tie-break or would it just go to head to head record?

3-way tie scenarios ?

In a 3 way tie, the team with the best head to head against the other two teams has a choice. They can either A)

1) let the other two teams play a game on Monday, and then they travel to the winner of that game

OR

2) have to beat both of the other two teams, but both at home.

The only two teams eligible for this choice are the Cardinals and Cubs right now, as the Brewers are way back in the head to head.

Cubs 16-10

Cardinals 11-12

So if the Cubs won the choice (which is likely), my guess is that they'd choose to travel to the winner of the Cardinals/Brewers. You'd always rather be the road team for 1 game than the home team needing to win 2 in a row.

Holy crap this could be some beautiful drama!

No, there would be two playoff games to determine the winner of the division.

The whole point of MLB tiebreaking scenarios is to not exclude a tied team from the postseason based on some random statistical "first tiebreaker, second tiebreaker, etc" rule. MLB always uses playoff games to determine which team goes to the postseason and which team(s) gets left out.

Not sure why any team would choose (3), cause if there's no big difference in your road and home records, you'll probably pick (1). If you're an amazing road team, you'll definitely pick (1). And if you're an amazing home team, you might pick (2). So, yeah....no real reason to pick (3) unless you have a drunk GM.

Cubs/Brewers in any location would be a hard fought contest in a one game playoff, but I gotta think the Cubs would easily best the Cards having done so now for a few years in a row regardless of who was playing at home.
