BA did their annual best tools piece for the minors and only 3 Cubs made it. Amongst PCLers, Felix Pie was the fastest baserunner while Josh Lansford was the best defensive third baseman in the MWL and Wellington Castillo (!) the best defensive catcher in the MWL. The Cubs had no one from the SL or FSL make any of the categories.

Who was fastest overall in the minors, Gardner?

Raisin, isn't Samardzija supposed to start?

No. His team has the day off and he pitched yesterday.

So...you're saying there's a chance?

Matt Camp was also the best baserunner in the MWL...

Is Brett Gardner really the fastest person in the minors?

My dad(Yankee's fan) said BA ranked him as such.

He wasn't the fastest baserunner in either of the two leagues he's been in this season. I haven't seen a ranking for all the minors combined.

Thanks, is he at least fast?

Can the Cubs get him?

They got an off day before the mighty Diamond Jaxx come to town..

I always accidentally click West Tenn instead of Tenn on the AA scoreboard and I think "When did the Cubs get Matt Tuiasosopo?".

Hernandez has been struggling with the long ball recently - 4 of those 5 runs came off the HR today. At least the second and third have been much better.

Daytona was blown out, 8-1. Santo was tagged for 5 hits, 4 runs, 5 K's/1 BB, and allowed a homer in 6 innings. Platt allowed 4 unearned runs in 1 and 1/3 of an inning. Rea was 3/4 and Clevenger was 2/4 with a double and Daytona's lone RBI.

Rehabbing Adam Harben gets the start for Mesa.

ETA: Sounds like he's ready to face better competition - he struck out the side in his only inning of work. Larry Suarez is now in to pitch the second inning. Cliff Andersen hit his first professional HR and Mesa leads it 1-0 in the second.

Peoria gets destroyed for the second straight day, losing 10-1. Hernandez got pounded tonight: 5+, 16 (!) hits, 10 runs, 8 ER, 3 K's/2 BB's, and 2 homers given up. Ceda pitched three no-hit innings of relief, including striking out 4. Good game for Welington Castillo as he went 3/4 with a pair of doubles. Leclerc went 2/4 and Barney was 1/5 with a double.

Boise tied at 6 after 5.

Is it just me, or is the talent just barren from Boise to Iowa?

Peoria, Daytona and Tennessee all need to step it up.

Peoria and Tenn have some nice pitching, but yeah, those 3 teams can't compare to Iowa.

Tony Thomas goes yard, there's some nice position player talent on that Boise team and they love walking too (granted the NWL pitching isn't that great). Boise up 12-8 in the 6th.

ETA: Thomas ends up going 2/2 with a two-run HR and a two-run single in the 6th. Boise up 14-8 after 6.
