Could Baltimore help us

I was over on Rotoworld checking out somethings, and some writer over there suggested Ramon Hernandez to the Cubs...that got me thinking what Baltimore had that could help us...

 

Huff- contract expires in 2010 3year/20 mil

currently hitting .262 6 HR 42 RBI .301 OBP and .697 OPS

Has played 0 games in the OF this year

 

Hernandez- contract expires 2009 4year/27.5 million

.240 4HR 34 RBI .337 OBP .697 OPS (recently on or close to coming off the DL)

 

Millar- 1 year 2.75 million with option

.282 9 HR 36 RBI .399 OBP .861 OPS

Has played 2 games in the OF

 

Trachsel- 1 year 3.1 with option

5-6 with a 4.95 ERA

has been on the DL and is expected to come off on Saturday

has started 30+ games in 10 of his 13 full seasons with starts of 22, 28 and 6 the other 3

 

Tejada- On DL (I know I am dreaming)

 

Anyway, I am in no way saying I want any of these guys and don't know if any are an improvement.

 

Maybe get Trachsel to be the 5th starter (and his 4 hour games) and then that would allow us to trade Marshall for an OF Bat. What does everyone think?

Yuck, yuck, and more yuck. Nearly everyone on that roster is underachieving (save Brian Roberts and Markakis, who I'm sure aren't available.)

 

Millar is a possibility on the bench and spot starting in RF. However, he is (and always has been) better against righties than lefties. He'd be a bad RF, but Floyd and Murton have been, as well. He's supposed to be good in the clubhouse.

 

For now, DeRosa in RF is a better option (though that assumes you can plug 2b with Theriot/Fontenot).

 

Huff has been bad this year. Floyd is a better offensive option as long as he stays healthy. His contract and current production makes him a big no-thanks, not even to unload Jones' contract.

 

Jay Gibbons has been horrible this year.

 

They do have some average-ish arms in the pen they might part with (Chad Bradford, Scott Williamson), but nothing to get excited about.

 

I'd probably gouge out my belly button if we picked up Trachsel again.

If the O's take a bit of Hernandez's salary, and we do not have to give up a decent prospect, I could live with acquiring him. However, I don't think the O's will feel the same way about that one.

 

We already have a Millar type player who comes at a cheaper price, his name is Daryl Ward.

 

Aubrey Huff is having a down year, and while his stock is really low and coming to Wrigley might get his numbers up, I doubt he'd help enough to warrant acquiring him.

 

Now, if the O's were to trade us Bedard, Ray, or Markakis, that's another story.

If we didn't have Ward I would be happy with Millar, but outside of that no thanks.

Izturis and a PTBNL for Bynum.

 

The PTBNL would be Bynum.
