Ok, it is a rather slow couple of days around the cubs so I thought I would throw this out to you all. As I was driving back from the east coast, I heard one of the Chicago radio guys complaining about Young getting to participate in the game when he is serving a suspension. At first, I found this kind of corny, but then as he went on and talked about Selig's goal to get the game back to "meaning something", I sort of shifted. Plus, the whole acceptence of his suspension during this time has alowed Young to have virtually no punishment at all.

What is everyone else's thoughts? I can probably be swayed either way.

Also, could the length that it has taken to make a decision on Lee be a good thing for the cubs and mean that the commissioners office is not taking this as a serious offence?

Ok, so if Chris Young can't play in the ASG while on suspension, then he'd have just followed D-Lee's lead and appealed until after the game. He'd have played either way.

No he would not have appealed it.

He dropped it because he wouldn't really miss a start with the way the schedule was set up.

The thing that I really hope is that the league sees that Young is not going to have any punishment, and reduces Lee's suspension to 3 instead of 4 that they normally would do.

He started on the 4th. His team played on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. He could have been around for game 1 after the break, with 2 days of rest following what is likely to be no more than 1 inning in the ASG. Now he'll go on the 14th. It's pretty much the thing that would happen with any starting pitcher getting a 5 game suspension. His next start gets pushed back a day, ASG or not.

I didn't realize that. Still...if he would've had to miss the ASG, the argument can be made that D-Lee should too.

True that it may not impact Young, but it sure does impact the Padres and their other four starters. Had it not been the ASB, then one of them would have had to go with one less day of rest

Both players lose 5 days' pay. Young still has to go through his ususal off-days work to be ready for his next start, while Lee gets a 5 day vacation. I think Young ought to demand additional days off if he's not going to get paid for them.

Somehow, I don't think Lee will be sitting on his butt watching Telemundo all day.
