Woa, Daytona is facing Tampa's Jacob McGee, one of (if not) the top LHP prospects in the minors.

Yup, I'd have to say Clayton's the best pitching prospect left in the minors.

Hmm, I'd still say Clayton Kershaw. Then Adam Miller and Clay Buccholz.

And you have Kershaw and Miller in Roadkill, fantastic.

I like Miller a shade better just because he's closer to ready. The report I heard of him hitting 100 in the sixth earlier in the year doesn't hurt, either.

Santo: 67 IP, 40 K/3 BB, .297 BAA

Ugh, that should have read 34 BB. I fixed it.

I thought McGee was better last year in person than Kershaw this season. When we faced Kershaw he got about 5 inches extra on the corner. Jeff Manship (out of Notre Dame, oops) is the best pitcher I have seen this season...

Am I correct in figuring that JR Mathes is set to go Saturday in Des Moines, I was hoping it would by some chance be Gallagher when I was in town.

Looks like it. Gallagher should start on Wednesday.

Cuban defector Yusdel Tuero got the start for Mesa today. Ryan Harvey is playing in RF so it looks like he's close to returning to Daytona.

AZL Cubs and Mariners tied up at 1 after 4. Balks led to each team scoring their runs. Luke Sommer tripled to drive in Jeffrey Rea for the Cubs.

AZ Phil (Road to Wrigley blog) was at the Mesa game and had this to say about Ryan Harvey:

One interesting thing regarding Ryan Harvey today..,

AZL Mariners manager Jose Moreno had several rather loud and animated arguments with the umpires at various points during the game, and in the bottom of the 9th, the Mariners’ manager and bench were once again really giving it to the plate ump on every close ball-strike call that didn’t go their way. And so finally, with two outs, all of sudden Harvey–who had just returned to the Cubs bench after striking out–yells actoss the field to the Mariners bench:

“Why don’t you shut up?!!! All you do is whine like babies. Wah, wah, wah…”

It was pretty funny, because usually AZL games are as quiet as a library, and Harvey is normally one of the most even-tempered guys around. Like when he strikes out (which happens a lot), he’ll just walk calmly back to the bench, lay down his helmet, carefully put his bat away, and sit down, almost Zen-like. But today, he just went off like a 4th of July firecracker!

Also, AZ Phil said Josh Donaldson was promoted to Boise.

Hell of a pitcher's duel in Daytona:

Jacob McGee: 5 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 9 K/0 BB

Joel Santo: 5 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 4 K/0 BB.

The Smokies are still up 3-0 in the 4th. Veal: 4 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 4 K/1 BB.

BTW, Chris Carpenter is starting his rehab to get back to the Cardinals today in the FSL.

Veal: 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 6 K/3 BB - the run came in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI double. Smokies lead it 4-1 and are still batting in the bottom of the 6th.
