Wichita plays Tulsa at 8:05 pm EDT today in a battle of the 2006 first and second overall picks (Luke Hochevar and Greg Reynolds). It's the first time that the top two picks in a draft have ever squared off against each other in the minors.

I hadn't heard what had happened to Michael Restovich for a long, long time; he just took a walk for the Columbus Clippers. And stole a base.

(I knew he wasn't with the Cubs any more, but haven't followed him around)

Senior draftee Jonathon Wyatt (Georgia, 12th round) homered for Boise, putting all three of their runs on the board. Al Albuquerque (what a great name) has thrown four shutout innings, striking out five.

BoiseHawks.com[/url]"]Late LaTorre Home Run Beats Hawks

Salem-Keizer catcher Tyler LaTorre launched a long home run off of John Muller in the ninth inning Tuesday night to lead the Volcanoes to a come-from-behind 5-4 win over the Boise Hawks in the season opener.

Hawks lead off hitter Jonathan Wyatt hit a three-run home run in the third inning to give the Hawks the first lead in the game. After the Volcanoes got two in the third inning off Boise starter Al Alburquerque, Dylan Johnston tripled in a run in the fifth for Boise ’s fourth run. Johnston had four hits on the night including the triple and a pair of doubles.

Salem-Keizer tied the game with two runs in the sixth inning off reliever Jordan Latham. The Volcanoes bullpen then kept the Hawks off the board the rest of the way with reliever Andy De La Garza getting the win with two shutout innings. Danny Otero struck out Sammy Baez with the tying run at second base to record the save in the last of the ninth inning.

The series continues Wednesday night as the Hawks send right-hander Alberto Cabrera to the mound against the Volcanoes’ Craig Clark. Game time at Memorial Stadium in Boise is 7:15 p.m.

Roster Moves: Left fielder Brian Leclerc, who had a hit and a pair of walks in his Boise debut was promoted to the Peoria Chiefs in the Midwest League following the game.
