Forgive me if this bothers anyone, but I figured if we have a Samardzija thread, we can have a Veal thread - I'm more interested in Veal, anyway. Plus, I'd like to have a thread where we can easily check up on him without browsing through all the discussion and boxes threads.

SO - here goes: first of all, what's with all the walks? It's good to see that his last two starts have been solid, but his first four were just awful. Do you think it was just adjusting to AA, or does he occasionally suffer from serious control problems like that?

ETA: Since this is the Veal Thread, I guess I oughta have a link to his MiLB page.

He's suffered from control problems in the past - it's been his biggest problem. Hopefully he's started limiting them now at Tennessee and the big spike was just as he adjusted to AA. He was also much more hittable than he had been in lower levels, but that seems to have slowed too.

Here's another Veal thread with links to his player journals and some pics and videos of him pitching thanks to Laura.

His second win of the season came this past Tuesday in relief against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Veal was scheduled to start the afternoon game, but Cubs pitcher Wade Miller was slated for a rehab start.

Time to demote Veal, he's not ready for this level. No progress, if anything, regression. Get him to Daytona and let him stay there all year. There's plenty of time for promotions later.

I think Veal showed he was too advanced for Daytona last year. He did really poorly in 4 outings to start the year, then put it together for 4 straight outings before tonight and a previous relief outing. He's been far from a consistent disaster all year.

With Pie now in the majors, Veal is probably my next favorite Cub in the minors....he has looked good of late, the other night

Does Piniella really want him back? Our rotation is just fine now. Don't fix what's not broken. If we put him in the bullpen and trade Eyre...now that's a good idea.

That article was from a couple weeks ago. The rotation isn't going to change.
