I'm getting that impression... Anyone heard anything yet? If they do anything but send Ronny Cedeno down, I'll be astounded (read: slightly furious).

Send Ronny down

Cut Wade Miller

Call up Guzman, Cherry.

Done and done.

I think sending down Cedeno would be the right call, at this point. Pie has shown that he can handle CF defensively. Give him a few weeks to adjust with the bat, before yo-yoing him back and forth to AAA.

Does anyone know why Miller basically gets a free pass from the press or Lou? (or maybe I'm missing the stories). The guy has been horrible over three starts and has not shown any promise at all. Its not like he is getting tough calls or barely missing his spots. Here is hoping that they don't make the same mistakes they did with Rusch and continue to use him despite his effectiveness.

Guzman can't be called up yet-have to wait until Friday for that.

Personally, Pie causes more problems then he solves if he stays up until Jones is traded. His hitting isn't quite ready, and to start him everyday with Jones, Murton, and Floyd combining to play one position is a tricky situation. Pie will likely make it the rest of the week, but when Guzman comes up Cedeno makes more sense for staying up-otherwise, Lou will never be able to pinch-hit for Izturis in a key situation.

If we send Cedeno down, we have 1 infielder on the bench who sometimes plays outfield anyway and cannot play short. Cedeno may suck, but we have to have someone in his roll.

I can see Cedeno going down and Cherry being brought back up. Although nagging injuries to DeRosa and Ramirez coudl change that thinking. We are still stuck with Izturis at short and a crappy Wade Miller in the #5 spot.

I would like a trade involving Jacque Jones and Wade Miller.

With Pie up, and Soriano back, there is no need for Theriot to play OF sub, so Cedeno presumably becomes expendable...if Theriot can play SS well enough.

I assume the Cubs will skip Miller's spot next time, and then call up Guzman to start the next.

My prediction: Cherry up, Murton down

I think you are right. Murton needs at bats to get his swing back. He just doesn't look the same this year.

In the games Murton has started, he has a line of .357/.400/.393. PH is not his thing, but he's tearing it up when he gets playing time. His struggles are very greatly exaggerated.

Unfortunately for all us Murton fans, I think that move actually makes the most sense. It will start to unclog a crowded outfield, and I'm in agreement: he's not quite right at the plate. But is he still Iowa-eligible?

Cedeno going down makes more sense to me. Get Theriot some starts at SS and get both him and Derosa playing together on the infield, so you can get them both in the same game without using Derosa in the OF.

I'm not sure I would call a .793 OPS from a corner outfielder "tearing it up."

Read the post directly above your's. If that's Murton slumping, then look out world.

Ok, besides his power numbers not being spectacular in those 28 AB's, he's tearing it up with 10 hits and a .400 OBP.

Any word when whatever move is made will be announced?

They could wait until right before game time, but we'd probably get some wind of it as someone would arrive at the clubhouse from Iowa long before then.

If I were the Cubs, I wouldn't make a move until Friday.

I think there's a reasonable chance that they'll DL Miller with an injured [iNSERT RANDOM BODY PART HERE], in which case they should do it today.

That was my hope. I think a diagnosis of "washed up arm" would be hard to argue with...But that doesn't really get us to 12 pitchers...just swaps them out...I'd vote for Cedeno going down...TheRiot being the starting SS, DeRosa starting at 2nd...Izturis being back up and late inning defensive replacement...still...leaves us very outfield heavy on the bench.

It would really come in handy for us to befriend the Iowa Cubs announcer, to get some inside scoops.

Replacing Miller with Cherry may not get us to 12 pitchers, but it essientially does the same thing for a few days. It gives the Cubs a seven man bullpen.

Then when it is time to utilize the fifth starter again, a position player (Pie or Cedeno) could be optioned out and Guzman or Marmol called up to start.

If I were the Cubs, Miller would either be DL'ed or DFA'ed with Cherry or Marmol being called up. Another pitcher would then be added in time for use as a fifth starter.

This is what should happen, but of course this is the Cubs, so we know something else will happen. I'm guessing they send down Murton.

Why in God's name would anyone advocate sending Murton to Iowa and keeping Cedeno on the roster?? That is shocking to me.

What does Matt Murton have to do to convince people he can be an everyday outfielder? He's in a slump, nothing more.
