This is a 10 team traditional 5 by 5 league-it auto drafted for me. Obviously I know I'm going to need another 1B, but if anyone could tell me the strengths and weaknesses of my team and how good they are, I would appreciate it-I am still struggling with getting used to fantasy baseball.

C-Brian Mcann

1B-Nick Johnson

2B-Luis Castillo

3B-Mark Teahan

SS-Bill Hall

OF-Vladimir Guerrero

OF-Carlos Beltran

OF-Carlos Lee

Util-Johnny Damon

Bench-Michael Cuddyer

Bench-Rocco Baldelli

Bench-Edgar Renteria

Bench-Nick Markakas

Bench-Michael Barrett

P-Roy Halladay

P-Daisuke Matsuzaka

P-Rich Hill

P-Fransisco Rodriguez

P-Bobby Jenks

P-Todd Jones

My initial thoughts are that this team is not good at all because it's not balanced. In fact, the computer drafted my starting 3B, 2B, and 1B in the last 3 rounds of the draft! I have some trading chips on the bench, but what value could I get for them?

Edit: This is a roto league and there is a max of 120 starts between the starting pitchers.

You need more SP (is this H2H or roto? Is there a Max IP?). I'd say add 2-3 more SPs, depending on if there's a Max on IP. I really like the 3 you have, but you'll need at least 5. You should be fine with closers as long as Jones doesn't lose his job.

Cuddyer is 1B eligible and if he equals or improves on last season, he's fine there. Teahan should also be fine at 3B (not great but won't kill you). If his second half is any indication, he'll be a great pick for the late rounds. Trade away one of your current starting OFs and Barrett for SP and a better 2B. I think Rocco, Cuddyer, and Markakis would start on most teams in a 10-team league. If you put Cuddyer at 1B and trade away 1 OF, that still leaves you either Markakis or Baldelli as a 5th OF (with Damon at util). And Hall will be OF eligible early in the season, so you could put him out there and Renteria at SS too. You may want to trade away 2 OFs.

If there's a DL spot (which there should be), put Johnson on it when the season starts and pick up another player.

Unfortunately, Cuddyer is not 1B eligible in my league (a ESPN league). Thanks for the tips though, that did give me a nice starting point to think about how to shape my roster.

I have a series of situations that I need help at. I'm looking to possibly upgrade at 1B, 2B, 3B, and SP. Here are my most likely options:

One player has Cano/Uggla/Durham at 2B and Morneau/Giambi (currently in his utility slot)/Helton at 1B

He only has 3 OF's (Ramirez/Burrell/Crisp)

Another has Pujols/Fielder/Overbay at 1B

This player has absolutely no closers.

A third player has David Wright/Aramis Ramirez/Troy Glaus at 3B, and his utility spot is blocked (David Ortiz).

He also only has 3 OF's (Andruw Jones/Patterson/Granderson) and only 2 SP's (Rich Harden/Ervin Santana).

Finally, a 4th player has 10 SP-Carpenter/Zambrano/Harang/Myers/Bedard/Sabbathia/Johnson/Verlander/Clemens

He has 1 closer (Lidge), weak in the OF (Jacque Jones/Craig Monroe/Byrnes), and no bench position players whatsoever besides his Utility player (Konerko).

I'm sorry for all the questions-this is a seriously messed up league right now though, and I definitely could use some help sorting through the trade options and who I should target and offer. I thought it would be better if I gave some specifics of who could possibly be had so that hopefully somebody will help me on what to offer some of these people.

Your chips are Cuddyer and one of your 3 closers. I like to have 2 top tier closers like you have and then get a third like a Todd Jones. RP are good trading chip from my experience. 1 RP isnt enough so anybody that has that is a good parnter. Dangle Jones all over the place.

Cuddyer or Baldelli(this would be my first choice) for a SP to the 10SP team. You'll lose some depth but you probably have too much on the hitters side anyway.

Find a way to get Aramis before someone else does. You have plenty of power so maybe including Carlos Lee in the deal and asking for Patterson in return might work to bump up your SB a little more. You need some more SB.

Does anybody have a crappy C? If so think of trading McCann or Barrett, i think you will get more in return from McCann but Barrett is just as good starter for you.

Having a messed up league could be fun. In a live draft league people like who they draft and its harder to find trading partners.

Thank you so much for your help. It is much appreciated.

I have a possible deal out there now where I trade Carlos Lee and ? for Harang and Myers. If he asks for Markakis, should I take it? I already have another deal confirmed if that deal goes through where I flip Harang for Aramis straight up.

Ok-here is my trading so far

Damon for Tejada

Baldelli for Uggla

Markakis for Adrian Gonzalez

Beltran, Jenks, and Barrett for Crawford and Hamels

So here's my team now:

C-Mccann

1B-Adrian Gonzalez

2B-Uggla

SS-Tejada

3B-Teahan

OF-Guerrero

OF-Crawford

OF-Carlos Lee

Util-Bill Hall

Bench-Cuddyer

Bench-Renteria

Bench-Luis Castillo

DL-Nick Johnson

P-Halladay

P-Daisuke

P-Rich Hill

P-Hamels

P-K-Rod

P-Todd Jones

I will have two extra spots available now. I'm thinking of picking up Corey Patterson and either Borowski/Dempster. Are those good pickups, and is there any other part of my team where I need to get stronger?

Another question-do I think of trading Carlos Lee for someone like Garrett Atkins (or possibly Ramirez, but with his current owner I doubt I get him)-and have Atkins, and Corey Patterson/Michael Cuddyer as my 3rd and 4th OF's, along with Teahan as my backup 3B and 5th OF? Or should I stick with Lee and Teahan?

I also forgot to say that I now have Bill Hall in my utility slot, so I could put him at OF after 10 games and put somebody else in the utility slot-in fact, I could trade for one of 2 DH's on one team (Thome/Thomas)-so many options.

BTW, you should drop teahen and pick up alex gordon. Teahen lost his spot to Gordon recently announced

Teahen is playing the OF and Gordon 3B.

Exactly - I think he's been playing OF primarily in ST b/c they wanted to give Gordon a good look. Teahen will be 3B and OF eligible in most leagues within a few weeks.

Update-I picked up Corey Patterson and Tom Gordon off free agency, and I traded Carlos Lee and Edgar Renteria for Garrett Atkins and Frank Thomas. My team is really shaping up now I think.
