I just participated in my first ever fantasy-anything draft (in the league for new players), and I'm not totally happy with my team (particularly my outfield), but it's good enough that I should be at least competitive. Here it is:

C Brian McCann

1B Mark Teixiera

2B Robinson Cano

3B Chipper Jones

SS Derek Jeter

OF Jason Bay

OF Magglio Ordonez

OF Corey Patterson

Util Jim Thome

BN Mike Cameron

BN Scott Podsednik

BN Josh Barfield

BN Edwin Encarnacion

BN Jason Varitek

SP Johan Santana

SP Jered Weaver

RP Mariano Rivera

RP Chris Ray

P Ervin Santana

P Barry Zito

P Dave Bush

BN Jose Valverde

I think I'm pretty good on SB, but I don't have a lot of HR/RBI power. My pitching is very good, I think.

What could I have done better?[/b]

So I think I might have been the only one not to get my team rated - so I'm just bumping this because I'm actually trying to figure some things out, since I'm new at this. What do I need more of and how do I get it? What is expendable?

rotoworld: Jered Weaver (biceps) returned to workouts Wednesday after sitting out with flu-like symptoms and is scheduled to throw off a mound Friday for the first time this spring.

There's still a chance that Weaver can be ready for Opening Day, but it sounds like the Angels are expecting him to miss at least one turn in the rotation to begin the year.

the guy on XM's fantasy focus is scared of weaver and injuries, FWIW. this report sounds more optimistic.

Your SP, other than Johan, isn't real good for a 10 team league. Zito is overrated, Weaver is a stud but has some injury concerns, Ervin Santana should make the jump to become a solid starter, but he's not a for sure thing. For a 10 team league, I'd look at dropping Varitek to pick up another starter. You really only have 4 starters and a banged up Weaver. I like to have at least 6 starters if possible. Your RP is very good, but I usually don't take closers early. However, because of this strength, you can afford to probably live with the SP you have. Pods is garbage, but if you ever need a stolen base late in the week you can put him in and have a pretty good chance of picking one up.

Overall, not too bad. If you could find one or two more starting pitchers, I think you'll be in real good shape.
