I wish I would have applied the "interim" labeling method to some of the women with whom I had relationships in the past.

Ever feel like calling your wife your interim wife?

I wish he would have had a little more of a period of work than 1 offseason as "interim" President before the 'promotion'.

You can't keep an interim tag for too long though-at most, he could have finished the season under that tag, but still that would have caused him troubles because an interim can often not make the changes he would like to make. I like this move, although I would like to know how long of a period they are going to give him before deciding on his future again (if it's more than 4 years before they even think about doing anything if things are going sour, then I don't like this move).

Not quite there yet, but to honestly answer your question in the foreseeable future: yes.

Take care out there, bub.

It was obvious from the get-go that this wasn't an interim promotion.

Agreed. However, their hesitation in making it official led to increased speculation that an imminent sale of the Tribune (by extension the Cubs) was in the works. Afterall, a new owner would most likely want the flexibility of hiring it's own president. As it stands now, he has a new contract & title and a bit more security. Perhaps this quietly signals that the Tribune Company has resolved to recapitalize instead of sell? We shall see.

This most likely means that the Trib has decided they're not going to sell the Cubs, or they're not going to sell the Cubs in the next year. The best reason to leave the interim tag on a guy is if you're not sure about the future of the organization, and if they've decided the Cubs organization will remain more or less intact, it makes sense to get rid of the interim tag so he can have more credibility and authority with everyone in the organization.
