The article also focuses on Lilly's challenges, as a fly ball pitcher, at Wrigley Field. He says his focus will be on keeping the team in the game rather than his individual stats.

"Whether the wind's blowing in or blowing out, the concept is still as simple as giving up less runs than the opposing team,"

"If I do that, we're going to win. Keep it at that and not concentrate so much or worry about my numbers, per se. My job is to go out there and keep us in the lead. That's what I need to be responsible for.

"If the opposing pitcher happens to be pitching a great game, I need to find a way to pitch a little bit better those days."

Not that it matters much (actually it doesn't matter at all), but what the hell kind of approach is that? He has to pitch 'a little bit better' on the days that the opposition is pitching well?

How about you just go out there and get as many guys out as you can? Sound good, Ted?

Again, I don't really care, since what it really comes down to is how he goes out and pitches, but his quote just struck me in a weird way.
