If this relationship can make Soriano happy, and that makes him play better, then that is great. I just don't want him to get to sad when Pie gets shipped back to the minors. I am sure in his time with the Cubs he will get a chance to play with him.

"Julian Tavarez, that's the kind of guy he was," Fleita said of the former Cubs pitcher. "When Juan Cruz came up, [Tavarez] told those guys not to spend their meal money. He told them to save it, take it home. He fed them, made them stay at his place -- he had a big place. And they never spent their meal money.

"[Players like Tavarez] don't want that publicized, but it was something that was done for them," Fleita said. "This is the only way they can repay the players who helped them."

My respect for Tavarez just shot up.

Just don't count on him for injury advice while setting your fantasy roster.

As crazy as he is, I have to hand it to guys like him. It's rough coming to a new country in front of rabid fans who love you one day and want your head the next, you know?

I think it's positive for Pie to have Soriano as a BFF for this reason. It's already tough for minor leaguers to get used to the insane amounts of travel and wear & tear your body takes over the course of a season. But when you come from another country, grew up in rough conditions, and suddenly are making plenty of money, it can be very easy to get swallowed up in some bad things.

Also, if they each have a half of a BFF necklace, I'll lol.

Pie looks bigger then Soriano in the picture.

according to Cubs.com player bio, Pie is 1 inch taller and 10 pounds lighter.

Yeah, he looks quite a bit bigger then him in the picture, though. Maybe it's just the angle or something.

Got to love Felix's waking up at 6 am 3 days a week to run for an hour while dragging a tire through the sand of a beach. I guess he isn't a fan of new technology

But seriously, that is pretty sweet.

Dude, have you seen the Rocky movies, especially IV? Training in the elements is the way to go.

It can be rough but I'm sure they know that's the way it works. That's the way soccer fans are, especially in latin countries, is it not?

It is true in any country that rabidly follows any sport.

However, that doesn't make it any easier on athletes. Seeing it and experiencing it are two entirely different things.

Tavarez is still a chump... he was just looking out for his countrymen.

Americans look after each other over in Japan, or Korea, etc, etc. A person is MOST comfortable with people who have similar backgrounds. Is that simple. If you went to the Domincan, you would seek fellow Americans, until you got comfortable, that's the same prinicipe with Tavarez. He is a chump for cheater, but for looking out for his fellow countrymen in a new country, no he's not.
