The Cards are now said to be in the running for Clemens, or at least interested.

On of his agents met with the Cards, but one Cardinal official put it at a 1 million-to-1 chance that Roger would be a Cardinal (per ESPN News).

I think it was Duncan that said that, IIRC.

He wants Clemens cause he took a look at his current "rotation" and realize he rotation couldn't strike fear in a little league team.

I don't want to play. That's final! . . . . . . BUT, if someone stubs their TOE. I MIGHT have to think about it.

MLB should have a rule to protect themselves and the franchises from the crap Clemens is pulling. I'm thinking if said player is not on a major league roster by April 1, or on a minor league roster by their opening day, then said player should not be allow to sign with whoever he wants at whatever time he wants to sign. The only exceptions, are players who are free agents, but had serious injuries during the free agent yr, who may or maybe not being able to play the next yr.

In other words, if Clemens wants to play, he would have to sign with the Astros/Red Sox/Yankees by Opening Day, or don't play at all.

So a team desperate for a second baseman can't go out and pick one up off free agency in May? It seems like that rule has many exceptions.

Besides, I don't understand the spirit of the rule in the first place. Why exactly does Clemens have to play the whole year anyway? I mean, I'm not happy whatsoever what he's doing either, but it's just as much the fault of all the teams interested for letting him do whatever he wants.

All I am saying is...if you are healthy, GO TO SPRING TRAINING. What Clemens is doing is self-serving, and is a disservice baseball. If Clemens wants to play, show up to camp, and go to work with his teammates, if he wants to wait till May/June, then he should JUST reitre, then.
