The NYT did an article on Piniella and the Cubs. I thought some of you might want to read it. It's mainly a fluff piece.

Link.

In his first meeting with players Thursday, Piniella outlined his expectations for the pitching staff, emphasized the importance of a quick start, and then tried to portray himself as a laid-back jokester who just wants to have a good time.

Asked about his message to the team, Piniella said: “We’re going to have some fun here — be nice and relaxed and loose. I like that atmosphere. I like to kid around. I hope they don’t take me too seriously.”

NY still holds a special place in its heart for Lou. There have been a lot of articles about him and the Cubs the past few months. And many 40+ year old Yankees fans are paying attention to the guy. They generally seem to be wishing him, and the team, well. I think they've wanted Lou as manager for years but have begrudginly accepted the fact that it's Torre's job to leave thanks to his success.

I don't mind relaxed and loose as long as the players are held accountable.

I don't think this will be an issue with Piniella as long as he is alive.

I'm sure you're right but after the Cubhouse Country Club they had last year I want to see things done differently. I think it was a good sign to see a lot of the players coming in with less weight.

Immediately following that statement, Piniella jamed the leg of a foot stool into the eye of Henry Blanco for chewing Grape Big League Chew instead of Watermelon Big League Chew

All this talk about Big Teddy Bear Lou is hilarious.

There's no way in hell he doesn't run out of that dugout if something terrible happens with the umps.

You can't remove a temper like that from a man. It's just not possible.

Should be more fun for spectators than dusty was, at the very least.

If he really tries to hold back the rage, it could be even more hilarious. Then you get red-faced, steaming-ears Lou 8-)
