Rick Helling-R-Brewers Feb. 5 - 5:42 pm et

Free agent Rick Helling says he is retiring in order to spend more time with his family.

Helling had been effective in limited action for the Brewers the last two years, amassing a 3.11 ERA in nine starts and 26 relief appearances. The 36-year-old finishes his career 93-81 with a 4.68 ERA in 234 starts and 67 relief appearances over 12 seasons. His best season was 1998, when he went 20-7 with a 4.41 ERA and 164 strikeouts for the Rangers.

I honestly forgot he existed until I saw this.

The last time I remember hearing his name was when he was with the Pirates. He was with their AAA club I believe and had been impaled by a shattered bat.
