Austin Kearns-OF-Nationals Feb. 1 - 2:20 pm et

Nationals agreed to terms with outfielder Austin Kearns on a three-year contract with a club option for 2010.

The option would cover his second year of free agency. No word on the terms yet, but the guaranteed portion of this deal is probably worth about $16 million. Kearns asked for $4.25 million and was offered $3.65 million in arbitration.

3 years,16 Mil Isnt this the Jaque Jones contract or very similar?

This includes 2 arbi years...jacques did not.

Interesting that a guy who supposedly was crazy unhappy in Washington last year signs a deal that buys out one year of FA and an option for his second.

Did someone take over Bowden's body and mind? He's been surprisingly good since taking over last year. Multiple good deals and transactions. I know someone's going to bring up Soriano - but hey, it's better than him trading him for peanuts and getting ripped in the press about it.

One could also bring up their probable 2007 rotation. It is just plain horrible. Hes made some good moves, but the Nationals are still a lock for the cellar. One could also bring up the Ryan Church ordeal. Even though he pimped him in an article early this offseason, actions speak louder than words and hes spent a lot of attention to bringing in competition for Church over the last year.
