Fantasy baseball league for (mostly) new players?

Y! opens tomorrow, so I'll set up a H2H 5x5 league with a cap of 1350 on IP. The standard starters I listed above with 6 bench spots and 2 DL spots. Commissioner review of trades.

 

If anyone is terribly upset about that, post here. We're forming a league backwards here (usually you set up the league and then look for teams to join), so it's going to be difficult for everyone to have exactly what they want.

I'll pass, I'd rather play roto.

I see at least one person had a problem with the live draft. Whatever day you make it please make it a weekend day. During the week I leave my house at 6 AM and don't usually get back until 8 PM.

As for the draft, I just picked a time. We can certainly change it. But it may not be possible for everyone to actually be online at the time. If you can't be there, you can just preset your rankings. It's not as fun, but coordinating 10 schedules might not be practical.

 

If we can work out a time that works for everyone, great. Otherwise we'll just try to get as many as possible online and the rest will have to preset their rankings.

My experience has been that it just isn't possible to find a time that suits everybody, so you just have to find a time that works out for the most people. Different time zones and different work/school schedules makes it virtually impossible to find a single time that suits everybody.

would Sunday 3/4 work for folks? What time doesn't make a lot of difference to me...I could do it at other times, but we're going to be in AZ for Spring Training the 2 weekends after that one.

Unfortuntatly is doesn't work for me until after about 1:00 p.m. But I don't care, I'm just glad to be in it. I see ya got it at 11:00 a.m. now. Can ya push it back a bit? Even an hour would help immensily.

I've never done a live draft in the few years I've been doing it because it's so hard to get people together to actually do it. I absolutely hate the Pre-Draft process though.

 

I don't like the idea of putting in some rankings haphazardly and then having the computer pick for you in the span of like... 10 minutes or something.

 

Plus, going through the pre-draft rankings and setting them up is so obnoxious because you have to take into account the amount of teams and the amount of players to be taken. So you could be like "I want this guy, this guy and this guy in round 1, then these guys in round 2" and so on, then your top 30 get snatched up in 3 rounds and you're left straggling behind and...

 

I'll just stop my gripe fest there. I'm glad this is live draft, it's much more fun

Few hours.

 

I have no idea what your second question means. But the way it works is every eligible player is available at the start. Right before the draft, Y! will randomly assign a draft order and the team with first pick will draft a player. It's a "snake draft." So we'll go through all the teams (10 in our case) and the team with the 10th pick gets first pick in the 2nd round (called the sandwich pick). The team with the first overall pick won't pick again until the end of the 2nd round, then they'll have first pick in the 3rd round.

I'm not sure who hasn't signed up yet, but we only have 7 teams listed and there were 10 people who said they were interested. We still have just 9 teams. I counted again, and I sent out 9 PMs, so there should be 10 total teams. Whichever poster didn't sign up, if you are no longer interested, please post a response here so that we can fill the 10th spot.

Well, if the last team doesn't sign up soon, I think they should lose their spot. No one else has expressed interest here and I have a friend who has done fantasy baseball once more and would probably like to play. Unless you guys object, I'll invite him if the last spot isn't filled by tomorrow.

 

I want to make sure that we have all 10 teams so 1 team doesn't have a bye every week, which must be really boring.

You can preset your player rankings. Whether you can come into the draft after a few rounds, I don't know.
