OK so hes completely healthy? Im just wondering if were going to see the old Prior who would throw consistenly in the mid 90's and had that crazy movement on his fastball and other pitches,He would just go after hitters and overpower them..If hes still pitching in the low 90's like last year, im going to be kinda worried, well have a repeat of him getting shelled like last season..If he regains his old form, I think wed have one of the top rotations in baseball. With a 1-2 punch of him and Z.Also having Lilly and Hill for our 3 and 4 is just solid. If everyone stays healthy and pitches to their potential, our top four could win 15 games each.Im already pumped for the season. The pitching right now is not bad at all and not really good, but if the old Prior comes back,I am definetley feelin us getting into the playoffs with ease in that division with that rotation and lineup..

Why would you be worried? If he hitting his spots consistently, he is not going to have a problem winning games.

It seems like you are getting a little ahead of yourself here. There is a big difference between being able to throw off of a mound pain free and being effective at getting batters out. There is also a big difference between being effective at getting batters out and pitching like Mark Prior did in 2003.

Bottom line, the best we can do is wait for spring training games to start and see how he does. But it is very welcome news to hear that Prior's strength building program he undertook this off-season seems to be producing the desired results.

I don't remember Prior getting out of the low 90s at all in 2005 and the results speak for themselves. He had an ERA in the mid threes and his pERAs were right around that area as well. His biggest problem was finesse command (ie HR and BB) not K's. Then again we should have noticed that losing finesse control but maintaining Ks and decent velocity is often a precursor to an arm injury.

here is my question. In today's sun times prior mentions how good his golf game is. Why is he allowed to play golf? Does that not potentially put more stress on his shoulder if his swing mechanics aren't perfect?

Golfing never hurt my shoulder after I screwed it up pitching.

BTW - my mechanics stunk at both sports.

I think you'd have to have pretty bad golf mechanics to tax your right shoulder in a right handed golf swing!

Prior shouldnt be doing anything..This guy could get injured brushing his teeth or doing anything..I think we should have him live in a bubble until spring training :)
