One "l" at the end of his last name, not two. So my answer was yes. Sad to hear of his passing recently, but he sure did a lot during his lifetime.

He signed the best player in Cubs history (Banks) as well as countless others in his 30+ years within the organization as important as his efforts with the Cubs were, what he did with the Negro leagues was just as impressive.

Yes, I know of several significant things about his time with the Cubs, both in the 50s and 60s. Signing Ernie Banks was already mentioned. I'll be silent about the rest, but what I remember most related to an unsuccessful Phil Wrigley idea.

I didn't know before the poll and answered no, but that sparked me to look it up. Impressive. And according to the unreliable link I read, he did not sign Banks, but did sign others.
