Cuban defector Juan Miranda said he has signed a four-year, $2 million contract with the Yankees.

Miranda defected to the Dominican Republic in 2004 and gained citizenship last year. The left-handed hitter claims he's 23, but is probably older. He's capable of playing first base and some outfield. Miranda said he picked the Yankees over the Dodgers. "Miranda is projected to hit over 20 home runs and hit .280," a Yankees official told ESPNdeportes.com. "He doesn't swing at bad pitches." Time will tell about that. He seems like a long shot to contribute next season.

Cuban defectors really aren't worth as much nowadays huh?

Since Gil Meche is worth 11 mil per, and this dude is worth 500 grand, anybody else wonder their own worth to an MLB franchise? I think I'm worth about 90 thou. Not sure why though, but I dont think Gil Meche is that much better than anyone here.

Anyone know what happened to that ABSOLUTE STUD Cuban player from the WBC last year? I thought he could play just about any infield position and hit for a ton of power. I was thinking I heard that he had defected at one time or another but then I haven't heard anything since. Any info is appreciated.

Yeah his name is Yuliesky Gorielle. And yes he is a stud can play second third short outfield. But is probably best at a corner position. Dude is quite an athlete 5 tools and scary power. There were rumors of his defection but they ended up being untrue. When reporters finally did catch up to him he was toting the gov't line about the how great the revolution is etc. Truth is though one or both of his parents are higher ups in the Castor regime so leaving cuba would basically be a death sentance for his family. I got this all from an article I read this summer I'll see if I can find it, it might have been in spanish though.

I'm a fast distance runner. When MLB elongates the distance between 1st and 2nd base to 15 miles I will steal more bases than Juan Pierre, and I won't get caught either. Give me Pierre's 5/44 contract and I'll be happy as a clam.
