I've suggested in multiple threads that the Cubs pursue Jones + Eyre for Lieber and prospects.

*Digging for a gold star*

Darn, can't find it. Sorry! :P

(Just a joke, Dude.)

I would take his 2000 Chicago Cubs form in terms of innings.. 251.. and 6 CG.. Especially his 2001 of 20 wins and 3.80 ERA in 230 innings.

Remember that 13 pitch CG that only lasted about 7 minutes? That man wasted no time on the mound.

I saw Liebs 11 rows in from the 3B line at Safeco back in 2002 - 90 odd pitches, CG, 5-1 result. The only Mariner who had any chance that afternoon was Olerud. That was one gem of a game - beautiful day, Sammy hit a 3-run blast into the opposite field stands.

I thought I remembered you being a pretty big Liebs fan.

Yeah. Although he does have a lousy 2nd half rep. When the Cubs got Maddux back in 2004, I thought it was sad that the Cubs didn't have Lieber around, given Maddux' (at that time) lackluster 1st half and good 2nd half tendencies.

Problem is, I don't think the Cubs are willing to play Soriano in center.

I think you're right for the most part, but if they got someone who was a clear upgrade at a corner OF spot they'd consider it.

I'd love to see Lieber back. Eyre and Jones for Lieber sounds good to me.

I really like Liebs, and I was in favor of the type of deal he got from the Yankees (although I understand why Hendry didn't offer it). But you really have to wonder about what he has left. He had a nice comeback from TJS, but he really took a step back last year. He might have gotten all the milage he could out of that arm. And he just gives up a ton of HR.

I'd be okay with Jones/Eyre for Lieber, only because it washes financially and they can then afford to go out and get a hitter. But they'd absolutely have to go get a hitter. Liebs may be no better than a 4.50 ERA guy now, and there is no guarantee he'll last 150 innings, which could mean substituting some guys who aren't ready.

It would be nice to have a starter who doesn't walk guys.

Found it -- 78 pitch CG 5/24/01 vs Cincinnati, game time 1:48.

That was Ronnie woo woo day and it was longer than 1:48 b/c of rain delays, where Ronnie Woo Woo feel asleep in the rain and people were taking pictures next to him while he was sleeping.

Digger Phelps was also sitting close to me and I was able to express my dislike towards him by asking him how well he did vs. UK.

I did no such thing!

That's one of the big reasons I grew to despise Baylor as the Cubs' manager. Lieber was worked to death in 2002, and because of the TJS, there was no way the Cubs had the $$ to do that second guaranteed year.

The other reason (besides just being a crummy manager) was Baylor trying to make Grace into a pull hitter. Fourth in the lineup??? And then Grace screwed up his shoulder, and MacPhail let him go because the Cubs had to keep the cash cow in Sammy, for which he was partly justified because Grace had a pretty bad year.

I'll certainly take that at 7.5M in this market.
