I mean, if they could stick Lugo out there as a stopgap, who's to say The Riot couldn't emerge as a Freel-like supersub? I know they want someone established, but if they can't find anyone and they plan on just going with Pie this year, does anyone think they'd try this?

It's a safe bet that most IF can make the transition to OF. Theriot is young and athletic enough to do the switch. Soriano did the same thing last year with the nationals. Heck, Dusty put Todd Walker out in LF

Wouldn't CF be the hardest of the OF positions to play?

That probably depends on the stadium. I think in Wrigley its actually harder to play RF because its large and theres the well. Heres an interesting analysis of OF defense position by position

Yeah...I was always a much, much, MUCH better IF than OF. I never could get a quick read on the ball like most good outfielders could.

CF is probably the most demanding of the OF positions. You have to cover both gaps, and make good jumps/routes to balls. Not sure if it is easier or harder, just a lot different from LF or RF. I would definately say that playing an OF position has unique skill demands from the other positions.

I would say CF is the most difficult or demanding.

I don't want to make any assumptions, but I'm guessing neither of you were good enough defensively to make it to the majors. :D

CF is the easiest of the OF positions to play. You're always going to see 2 things: the direct path/flight of the ball, and where the catcher is setting up to receive the pitch. You also (generally) are dealing with less annoyances like the sun, or wind tunnels.
