Mets signed outfielder Moises Alou, who had been with the Giants, to a one-year, $7.5 million contract with a club option for 2008.

Alou will start in left field when healthy and likely hit fifth or sixth in the lineup, with David Wright occupying the other spot. His bat is still very good -- he's finished with a 900 OPS each of the last three seasons -- but he's played in 123 and 98 games the last two years. The Mets will likely be relying on Endy Chavez as a fourth outfielder a great deal. Since Alou was a Type A free agent, the Mets surrender their first-round pick by signing him.

Does this make Floyd more likely to come to Chicago now? The Mets have Alou/Beltran/Green now.
