For those wondering where Girardi would land...

Fired by the Florida Marlins after one season as their manager, Girardi will rejoin the Yankees' broadcast team on the team's YES Network, apparently content not to be in a major league dugout next year.

"At this time, I thought this was the correct move for my family and I," Girardi said Monday on a conference call to announce his return to YES.

He's obviously setting himself up to replace Torre, eventually.

I think he is setting himself up for disappointed if that's the case. I think it spoke volumes that nobody, other than the Nats, really gave him much of a chance. He'll be in the booth a long time.

The Nats didn't give him a chance or he didn't give the Nats a chance?
That was his only shot and he didn't get it and he won't get the Yankees job either.

He withdrew his name, the Nats didn't spurn him.

I thought the promotion of Don Mattingly to bench coach for the Yankees was a signal that he will succeed Torre when the times comes. Say what you want about Steinbrenner, but I think Cashman will have the call here and has already lined Mattingly up for the opportunity once it presents itself.
