Rotoworld[/url]"]If Aramis Ramirez elects not to re-sign with the Cubs, they might consider bringing back Cub Nomar Garciaparra to play third base.

He saw time at the position while Ramirez was hurt in 2005, but Garciaparra has a better chance of staying healthy if he remains a first baseman and the money could be the same either way. Nov. 5 - 10:11 am et

I think that Nomar would be a great option for 2B or SS actually. Hopefully we will pursue him even if we do sign Aram back. He would be invaluable playing all over the infield, and maybe even in the oufield.

From everything I've heard, Nomar cant play SS anymore. I wouldnt mind trying him at 2B, or maybe a platoon partner for Jones in RF. And I think he would definitely be a good option for 3B if Ramirez leaves.

They might consider.

That doesn't sound like anything that we didn't already know. Yeah, they might consider it. Doesn't necessarily mean anything. And I highly doubt that that's anything more than the writer mentioning a possibility - a very unlikely one.

I'd love to see Nomar back, but don't think he is a fit. Also have a feeling that he would probably like to stay on the West Coast. I think signing him to play 2B would be an unwise investment since we have great options there already (Theriot & Cedeno, plus prospects Fontenot & Patterson).

Clearly, the Cubs need to improve the Outfield, and let's hope 3B is covered by Aramis Ramirez. If there is a hole at 3B, I'd like to see Nomar back for sure. I have a feeling that 1B kept him healthy in 2006, though.

why is he more likely to stay healthy at 1b? Anyway, he doesn't produce enough to replace ramirez so if he is at 3b, the cubs better get some boppers elsewhere.

1st base is not quite as physically demanding as Shortstop & 3B (quick movements laterally are not really good for injury-prone hammys/tendons). I am sure Nomar could still handle 2B or 3B. If the Cubs retain Ramirez, there is no real need to get Nomar.

how is 1b any different than 3b other than having to make throws? I think 3b would actually be less demanding since you don't have to stretch for bad throws (unless you are playing for the tigers).

At 3B, the reaction time needed it much more than at 1B. And with Nomar's history of groin injuries, he could easily reinjure it with an awkward dive.

how? They are the same distance from the plate? Are you saying because there are more right-handed batters this makes 3b more hazardous? I don't buy it.

If we retain ARam, then Nomar is pretty much the only 3B on the market. With multiple big market teams in need of third basemen, hes going to be able to get his payday and not have to switch positions. We aren't going to get him on the cheap, thats for sure. And he had a pretty crappy second half. Unless we lose ARam, hes not a good fit for us.

They don't call 3B the "Hot Corner" for nothing.

Nomar's second half: 229/286/408

Did Nomar and Mia buy a house or condo here before he signed in LA? I wouldn't mind Hendry trying to lure Nomar here with a starting second baseman job? We will have protection with Theriot/Cedeno/Patterson for when Nomar misses games. Nomar/2B/5M seems like a pretty good deal compared to what Durham will get in terms of money and years.
