This was brought up on another message board, and I think it brings up an interesting question.

Dombrowski's contract with the Tigers is up after this season. He's a Chicago native.

Would it make sense that the Cubs still have the "interim" tag on McDonough because they're waiting until after the World Series to see if Dombrowski would have interest in coming to the North Side to be President/GM of the Cubs? It might also explain why Hendry somehow got to keep his job while MacPhail was forced out and Dusty was fired.

If the Tigers win the World Series, would Dombrowski have interest in the Cubs job, seeing it as a challenge?

I like the idea, but don't think McDonough is really "interim." If your reasoning above is accurate, I could support DD for Pres/GM.

Hey Goony, has Jim Hendry EVER done anything right in your eyes?

Ever? Sure, he's done some good things. But every GM can pull off some good things. The fact is he's a failed GM. The big picture is what matters, not the occasional good thing done right. That's like defending Neifi Perez by saying he's occasionally done good things at the plate.

Would it be in bad taste to build a winner and then bolt town?

No, bad taste is signing your failed GM to an extension and then leaving town.

Why did it never dawn on me that that is exactly what MacPhail did? Good call.

Nice sig. :)

Thanks, but in the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that I'm hoping to have one of an ND player nailing a Bruin after this weekend.

I'm not sure they're going to need to focus on the game. :P
