HFA is overrated.

I really don't think so, look at the two games that the Bears didn't dominate. Metrodome (where they suck) and a loud AZ stadium. I do not want the Bears to have to play in seattle in the playoffs.

Yep, the Bears domination has been at home, and at Lambeau (where they've been winning quite a bit lately). HFA looks big right now.

Personally, I've seen the Eagles beat the Bears in 2002 on the road, and then lose at home in 2003 and 2004 in the NFC Championship game. Two of the three years the Patriots won the Super Bowl, they went on the road to Pittsburgh to win the AFC Championship game. The Ravens in 2000 won two games on the road en route to the Super Bowl championship, and the Steelers won three in a row on the road last year.

I don't watch other teams frequently enough to evaluate how much value HFA has for them, but I think HFA means a lot for this particular team.

Obviously talent is most important. But there are real HFA factors that play in, especially with teams like Seattle, or dome teams.

If the Bears don't kill the 49ers coming off the bye week and their woeful performance in Glendale, then they need a few losses to spark them through the playoffs. And they need HFA in the NFC.

HFA is overrated.

It may be overrated a bit, but I still think it's important.

TV news:

Trib[/url]"]The Bears' game at the New York Giants on Nov. 12, listed as a noon start on the schedule, will move to Sunday night on NBC, according to industry sources.

And that's just the start.

It is still possible the network could require the NFL to shift two more Bears Sunday games into prime time.

NBC could take the Bears-Minnesota game on Dec. 3. The Bears-Tampa Bay game on Dec. 17 also could be moved to night.

The Giants game will be the Bears' second Sunday night appearance of the year and the third overall in prime time. A fourth night game is set for the Bears' date at St. Louis on Monday, Dec. 11.

Under league rules, the Bears could be eligible for six prime-time games, leaving two more potential Sundays open for NBC. Given that the Bears are the talk of the league, the network may jump at the opportunity to showcase them.

The league's new television contract gives NBC flexible scheduling on Sunday nights. Beginning with the Nov. 12 week, the network will be able to move an afternoon game to prime time; the Dec. 24 game is the lone exception as NBC will air Philadelphia at Dallas.

According to sources, certain games already have been designated for NBC, with the Bears-Giants game being one of them. In other words, NBC has the right to shift off that game, but obviously it won't.

Is there going to be SNF on 12/31? Because IF the Bears were to get to 15-0 I would think NBC would want that game. Edited by Brian

From that same article:

NBC has to give 12 days' advance notice of its Sunday selection with the exception of the season's final week. Only six days' notice is required that week. Fox, though, is saving its last protected game for Dec. 31. If it appears to be Brett Favre's last game, the game will air on Fox.

Besides...I don't think ABC is getting ANY NFL games this year... :P

The potential for bad winter weather certainly would be even more of a help to their already-great defense. But I don't think the Bears play an offensive style that's all that favorable for playing in wind, cold or snow. They don't run the ball all that well, and they have been using the deep pass extensively so far this season.

Oops on the nbc/abc mix up.

Can anybody think of a more proper game for Favre to go out on, than on his back in soldier field :o

I just don't want the Bears to have to play in Seattle. Look what happened to Eli, in what was it week 2?. Imagine what the fans could do to Rex in the NFC championship game.

The only saving grace for Favre is that the Bears may already have home field locked up, so they wouldn't play a lot of the guys who could kill or maim him.

They are very capable of running the ball well, as they did last year with the same squad. I think they've gotten away from focusing on that aspect, partially in an effort to get Grossman developing, and partially out of ego once they realized they could throw. I bet they run a lot the rest of the year.

Grossman isn't a Manning; he's less likely to choke in a big game.

The Bears have the third worse YPC in the NFL. They aren't running as much, true, but when they do run the ball, they aren't effective at all.

Like I said, they haven't focused much on it this year, and I believe it was a combo of putting so much effort into developing Grossman and partially out of arrogance.

This is a Dustyesque rationalization of a negative statistic.

No it isn't. They ran well last year. Have the same people + a healthy Benson. Have focused most of their offense on the passing game. Dusty has nothing to do with it.

So they're really not trying that hard to gain yardage when they hand the ball off?

I hope the next two weeks are spent on teaching Cedric Benson run blocking because he sure as heck needs to be getting more touches than Thomas Jones.

I don't need to see Benson run blocking at all.

Oops, pass blocking.
