The Jones move is somewhat surprising, given that he's young (22) and lefthanded.

 

Jones was 1-3 with a 5.20 ERA in 12 games (10 starts) at Class A Fort Myers, but was 2-2, 3.25 in six starts at Class AA New Britain. He's the only player the Twins received when they dealt Doug Mientkiewicz to Boston in 2004, a deal that allowed Nomar Garciaparra to be traded from Boston to the Cubs.

As a fellow Purdue grad, I hope Gassner can catch on somewhere. He has a very good change-up and one of the best pickoff moves I've ever seen. He's not going to overpower anyone but could probably make for a decent middle reliever for some team.
