Besides the big three that have already been mentioned for the Cubs job, I was wondering if there would be any interest in Ron Washington, as manager of the Cubs? What is he, a bench coach for the A's? I think it was Joe Buck on Fox, that thought he would be ideal for the Rangers job. Your thoughts on the matter?

My preference:

1) Girardi

2) Brenly

3) Piniella

I'd like to hear Washington's ideas before I'd jump on his bandwgn. If he's bought into the Beane school of thought, he'd move way up on my list. If he demonstrated a knowledge of a run expectancy chart, I might put him right behind Larry Dierker.

I'm more interested in the bench coach for the Red Sox, Brad Mills. Especially if it means Ron Jackson can be the Cubs' hitting coach.

Blame MOJ for getting me on the bandwagon.

Is that the same Brad Mills who managed the Peoria Chiefs in the late 80's?

Ron Washington is the A's third base and infield coach. Chavez gave Ron his first gold glove. The A's are often regarded as the best positioned defense in the league. I have no idea if Washington would be a good manager, but the staff in Oakland seems to work very hard.

For all the hype about OBP and Oakland, I don't think they have ever been at the top of the league in OBP in my memory.

It's not that they're the best, it's that they tend to get good results for the money. Having the best would be too expensive for them.

They are going to always finish slightly behind the Yanks and the BoSox, but at a very small fraction of the cost.

they haven't finished above 7th in the last five years and have generally been middle of the pack. I would like to see how they rate in ISOD as that park will hold down batting averages.
