Cuse, i think Hendry will resign both Ramirez and Pierre- and i think he should- i also think we keep Pagan and unfortunately because of his Maciasness which hendry loves we'll see bynum again on the bench next year, afterall...speed never slumps-i dont think either of them is eligible for FA yet either- Those two are a pretty good start on the bench and cheap too- i just wish we had a capable Catcher to back up Barrett that was in our system-we really need to save money on an many options off the bench as possible so we can spend it on the position starters and pitchers-

I hope that Pierre and Ramirez are not a package deal. I'd love to have Ramirez back but not so much with Pierre. How much are they going to get?

Jim Hendry will be working the phone's hard from the local Dunkin Donuts

and will sign both Jose Guillen and Ted Lilly to long term deals.

Look up to see the question. :box:

I think Pierre will get a 4 year 30 M and Ramirez will get a 5 year 67.5 and both not with the Cubs.

What other Cubs are free agents? Bynum, Mabry, Blanco and Pagan?

To the casual fan (ie people that go by traditional stats and listen to BBTN analysts) losing Pierre is just as bad as losing Ramirez. When I listen to opposing teams' radio guys on XM they universally priase Pierre and believe the Cubs "have" to bring him back.

Evidently, there must be a secret 7th place that only people "in the game" know about.

i think Ramirez gets 5/65 from Hendry-no way Jim lets him go anywhere- Pierre i think wants to stay and will probably give a "discount" to stay- maybe 3/22.5? he made 6m this year so a raise and stability in Chicago may make him happy- someone will pay 9m a year for him somewhere-maybe he stays here for 7 a year-hope not but oh well. if Hendry does sign him he has to start shopping Jones -

I think Pierre has his value as an 8 hitter in a good lineup but not as a leadoff 7 million dollar guy.

Bynum and Pagan are not FAs, are they?

I don't know, that's why I put the ?. I should have just asked like you did to avoid confussion.

I think they're both just arby eligible. I hope I'm right, but I have a feeling that only Pagan will be with us next year.

Back to your original post...

Mabry -- 1 / 750K

Blanco -- 1 / 1.5M

Ramirez -- 5 / 65 (Cubs)

Pierre -- 4 / 36

Wood -- 1 / 3 + incentives (Cubs)

Miller -- 1 / 2.5 (Cubs)

I think Pierre wants to shop around just like Ramirez. Leadoff guys like him are over valued and I think he could get a pretty penney out in the market and since Wrigley has 2 foot high grass he might want to search for less greener pastures. I also think this is his last chance for a big deal and that is going to play a big part in his decision.

Wow...shame on me, I forgot about Wood. I think your Woody deal is about right and very heavy on the incentives. I'm curious if those incentives are going to be as a starter or reliever or both. I think the Rangers are going to go after him big time.

Do you really think the Cubs will resign Mabry?

No, the re-signs I have marked. The others I am hoping and assuming will be signing elsewhere.

Neither Pagan nor Bynum are arbitration eligible, let alone free agents. They had a combined service time of about a week coming into this season.

So they can still be sent to Iowa then? How many options do they have left?

Posted
I'm confused then. I don't believe either of them have options, thus their former teams dealing them here. If they can't go to the minors, are not going to be FAs, and are not arby eligible, what are they?

They are out of options due to spending 3 years on the 40 man roster with their former teams. They could be sent to the minors but would have to clear waivers. That could be done at the end of ST. Bynum clears pretty easily. Pagan probably doesn't.

Not only do they not have enough time to be arb. eligible, they cannot ask for their release.

As far as I know, their fate is up to the Cubs. Hendry can offer them pretty much whatever he wants, and as long as he keeps them on the 25 man roster (a near lock), the Cubs own their rights.

I think it depends on the new manager and what they do with the rest of the bench. Theriot seems to have earned a spot as utility infielder. Pagan does make a decent 4th OF. Having both of those guys on the bench eliminates the need for Bynum's speed- the only tool he possesses.

The silver lining, even if Bynum and Pagan make the team, is that neither are making any money and are therefore easily expendable for more attractive bench options. If Soto replaces Blanco- as he should- the Cubs have the luxury of having half their bench set for less than they paid Perez.

Whoever the new manager is, he's going to be a Hendry hire, which means he'll be a guy who likes people like Bynum on the roster. I would be shocked if either Freddy or Pagan are gone. Angel is a 5th OF (a 4th should be able to start for a month or two without hurting the team - Angel can't). Bynum has probably done more than any previous "25th" type player that Hendry has been smitten with. I think he'll concentrate more on spending on pitchers and a big bat than finding more veteran 25th men.

Pagan, Bynum, Theriot and a catcher probably account for 4/5ths of the bench (assuming they foolishly go with 12 pitchers again), with a veteran corner man taking the other spot, unless Murton moves to the bench as well.

i would disagree on pagan, i think that he could hold down a corner outfield spot for a month or two without hurting the team. but that's provided we have a decent team.

I think Pierre will get 3\21 and Ramirez will get 5\75. The Dodgers are going to inflate Ramirez's contract.

i really don't think that ramirez will get 15 mil per, i really don't. the dogers might inflate his asking price a bit, but i'm not worried that we won't match it, we're already planning on paying him like 11 mil, right? what's another couple of mil to keep one of your best hitters?

You realize he's got a .319 OBP right now, and 737 OPS? Since his playing time started to increase, post all star, he's hitting just .255/.328/.377. Pagan has some physical skills, but he's no 4th outfielder. For a while he was living off of a supposed power advantage over Murton, thanks to a nice opening day and a just back from the DL 2 homer game that kept his SLG artificially inflated. Pagan has a crappy minor league history, whose only strong point was an acceptable, but far from outstanding isoD.
