In all honesty, they will give him one more shot at it. If he screws up again this off season, he'll probably be gone, and I'm assuming he knows that. Does that mean he'll do better this off-season? Probably not.

Do GM's every resign? I know it won't happen, but you'd think he'd be so embarrassed for getting 95 million and building a team that has a loss for each of those million dollars spent...maybe more.

i think this offseason will tell us how comfortable hendry is with his position. if goes big and trys to make a splash immediately..he's on the hot seat..he does his normal band-aid approach or goes young..he is very comfortable. i also think his manager will be in large part dependent on his approach this offseason. if he goes young, i do not see a proven guy coming in to teach..especially with only 2 years on the gm's deal. i would think that would include giradi. i don't see him going the rebuilding route after the success he had this year. he will hold a lot of cards if he is let go!

i still can not believe hendry didn't get fired and got extended! it is baffling. it's one thing if you put this type of product on the field in kc or tampa. they use limited resources andreally do not expect/try to win. we spent 300 mil in 3 years and our 10 games below .500. injuries mean a lot but wow!

I agree with Outshined. They should pull a "Knicks" and say "okay idiot, you made this mess, you go down there everyday and make it work or you're out".

Methinks that if Mark Cuban owned the team, everyone from MacPhail down would be in the unemployment line

The smallest crowd at Wrigley Field in four years watched the Cubs plummet to the depths of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on an otherwise perfect Thursday afternoon on the North Side.

The announced attendance of 27,105 was the smallest home crowd since 20,032 turned out to watch a Cubs-Reds game Sept. 26, 2002, during the final days of Bruce Kimm's 78-game stint as interim manager. There were several thousand no-shows again as Cubs fans continue to eat their tickets.

You would think that the Trib would see this and realize that major changes are necessary.

no one can just say that hendry won't be fired because he signed an extension.

if he continued to work until the end of his contract and then wasn't re-upped, we wouldn't say that he was fired, we would just say that he wasn't retained. people get fired all of the time, especially GM's and managers, and by "fired", i don't mean that they simply were allowed to complete the terms of their contracts and then weren't re-signed.

that said, he won't be fired this offseason unless something crazy happens. but he will, most likely, be fired after next season. there is absolutely no way that a guy with the philosophies that hendry carries can build a playoff team by next year, no way. the players he likes are bad, and he will probably acquire some terrible ones.

I have to agree with you, there is no way we make the playoffs next year. There's not enough resources available to us to do it and our GM is terrible.

what's Hendry's salary?

I'm sure they wound't care about eating his salary if they had to fire him.

Hendry won't get fired because he is MacPhail's pet.

MacPhail won't get fired because he is the Tribune's pet.

The all kiss each other's rear ends and there is no acccountablity.

It sucks being a cubs fan.
