Meanwhile, the Cubs are keeping a close watch on pitchers Mark Prior and Kerry Wood.

Prior again denied speculation that he is hurt, saying he "felt great" after throwing "52, 55 pitches" before Sunday's game. Prior is trying to rebuild his strength after a throat infection sent him to the emergency room during the winter.

"I feel good," Prior said. "I like the way we've progressed and built it up. ... I like the way we're going about it."

Wood is scheduled to throw off a mound Monday, then have arthroscopic knee surgery in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Wood experienced minor pain walking and running for a few days before an MRI last week revealed a medial meniscus tear -- a diagnosis that surprised the right-hander.

"I was totally expecting nothing," he said.

Instead, he'll undergo an operation.

Wood hopes to resume workouts Wednesday, possibly throwing from a trampoline or a seated position. He expects to be able to have a catch within four or five days.

"My shoulder feels better the more I throw," Wood said. "I really don't want to miss more than one day without doing something with it."

The Cubs insist this is nothing more than a minor setback for Wood, who is recovering from surgery on his right shoulder last August and has been on the disabled list nine times during a pro career that began in 1995. He was on the disabled list three times last season and moved to the bullpen before shutting it down.

"(The knee) doesn't really bother me that much," Wood said. "I don't want to get into July or August, field a bunt and now I'm out for the rest (of the season)."

Wait, Prior had a throat infection over the winter? I've heard multiple versions of went sent him to the hospital...what's the official word at this point, from Prior or the Cubs?

At least they got two things right. It was a Rich Hill start, and it was against the Giants.

And Prior and Wood are hurt, although technically that's like falling out of a boat and hitting water though.
