Arsenal rumors are all across the board from Hazard to Honda. Honda appears to be dead, Hazard is unlikely, but nothing new on Dempsey that I can find.

Arteta to Arsenal in a very like-for-like (including fragility) for Cesc. Dempsey would always be replacing Nasri w/Arshavin so that isn't a deal killer.

Poor David Moyes. That guy needs a transfer himself.

Sounds like the Arteta deal is dead now.

This Arsenal stuff is like someone in a fantasy draft who wanted to think they were smart by not blowing a ton of money early on the glamour names and then they have to scramble and overpay for someone like Thomas Jones in the late rounds because they need a running back.

Bryan Ruiz to Fulham reported as a done deal for 12 million euro.

ETA Benayoun to Arsenal according to his twitter.

And they caved and got the Arteta deal done. I won't even recognize this team anymore after today. Not seeing Rosicky in the starting XI is always a big +.

I like the new Park Chu Young chant.

He'll shoot!

He'll score!

He'll eat your Labrador!

Park Chu Young!

Park Chu Young!

Meireles to Chelsea

Massive move. Liverpool are nuts to lose him.

Btw, shnsa, Park Chu Young sucks.

Yeah I expect next to nothing from him.

If the reports are true and Tottenham turned down a 40M pound bid from Chelsea for Modric, I'm pretty disappointed they didn't sell. I love Modric and he's a good player but that would have been the seventh highest transfer fee in the history of soccer behind Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Kaka, Zidane, Torres and Figo.

I never wanted them to just give Modric away, but for 40M, I'd be willing to sell just about anyone.

He handed in his transfer request. I suppose they could have played hardball, but they had no desire to have a malcontent on their hands.

As for the player, I think he's going to help Chelsea a lot. He's a good player and almost exactly what they need. I really liked him and hate to see him leave. I really hate to see him strengthening a rival in a position of need.

However, from a Liverpool perspective, right or wrong, he was not going to be in the starting XI (he wasn't even starting with Gerrard out injured). Partly because he ran a lot during games, he struggled playing 90 minutes forcing a sub to be used (he was LFC's most-subbed out player last year). He is also a really soft tackler (cannot count the amount of times he pulled out of a tackle). He's also 28 and probably at peak value. Losing Meireles is by no means ideal, but it's not devastating -- it hurts LFC's depth, not the starting lineup (and with no Europe, depth less imperative). It stinks, but LFC had an excellent transfer window overall.

Exciting news.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/soundersfcblog/2016090590_zakuani_on_his_national_team_f.html

Steve Zakuani had a nice interview with the Official Arsenal Magazine and I strongly encourage you check it out. Obviously there's a strong focus on the EPL team of his youth, but several other issues are brought up, including Zakuani's unsettled national team future.

The Sounders FC midfielder is eligible to play for DR Congo and England, and is also on track to become eligible for the U.S. men's national team in a couple years.

Here's how he responded when asked about whether he wanted to play again for DR Congo, having represented them in a non-binding friendly:

"It was a friendly against Mali and was a lot of fun but it doesn't tie me to the Congo national team. I'm eligible for England too, even though that looks to be more than a long shot at the moment. And in a few years I'll be able to play for the USA. Of the three, I prefer the States, as this is where I made my name as a player, but we'll see how things turn out."

Steve Zakuani, pre-injury, was the best left-winger in MLS and a top 5 player in the league.

I'm liking the confidence of Chandler, though he seemed a little lost when the ball came right to him outside the box. Rodgers has served up some crap so far tonight. Jozy looks strong, holding his ground well.
