Im in a 5x5 league and have Giambi, but desperately need to improve my BA and need starting pitchers. I was just offered Petitte and Jeff Francis for Giambi. I'm weary of Petitte, but he's had 9Ks/9IP and a 1.19 WHIP over the last month. The other guy also has Clemens and I've been trying to improve my offer to replace Petitte with him, but so far to no avail. Its a keeper league, and I won't keep Giambi, but he will (so I think he should pay a premium). I am very close to first and although hes only one place out, point-wise he's pretty far away from finishing in the money, but hasn't given up yet. So I'm the one who really needs to make the trade, not him. Thoughts?

I think you are offering too much for Giambi. If you need to improve your team's BA, Giambi and his .250-.260 BA won't really help. Pettite has been better recently and Francis is having a good season, and since it's a keeper league, you should hold on to Francis. He's a good young pitcher. If you are gonna go through with this deal, try and acquire another pitcher in the trade, or another player you are in desparate need of.

Yeah, you had it backwards..I was the one with Giambi. And like I said, for me there were no keeper implications (we are allowed to keep 5 players only). I ended up talking him into replacing Pettite with Clemens so in the final deal I received Clemens and Francis for Giambi, Luis Gonzalez and Barfield (both of whom are bench players on my team). There likely will be quite a backlash in my league, but it was a good trade for both teams. He gets a keeper for no keepers and I get two excellent pitchers for a guy who was dragging down my average. And I traded Lackey for Berkman (right before Lackey started sucking) in preparation to trade Giambi. My next mission is to trade Chipper and spare parts (I have Teahen and Encarnacion) for an elite catcher and a closer.
