The metatarsus area consists of the five long bones in a person’s foot, numbered in order from one to five. Dopirak broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot, more commonly referred to as “the pinky toe.”

After having surgery to repair the bone in April, he returned to Double-A West Tennessee in early June and resumed playing. But eventually, the pain began to resurface in the area and Dopirak was sent to Chicago for X-rays.

I didn't see this posted anywhere. I broke the same bone about 5 years ago and can still "feel" the spot it broke every now and then.

Ugh, what a horrible turn of events for the guy.

From the Q&A we had and from what I've read, he seemed like a really classy guy. I really wish nothing but the best for him in his recovery!

That would explain the lack of power....He's the type who may only bat .250 but have a lot of homers. I haven't checked for awhile but he had only one home run.......

Ron Potesta had mentioned that he hasn't been able to generate power because of his foot when he was playing (and I assume this was when he wasn't feeling much pain).

*sigh*

That stinks.

If he does get the surgery, I hope he can heal up in time for next season. :(

Yeah, it's a shame. I was hoping he'd be able to play in the AFL since he had missed so much time this season.
