"We have to live with it with all [the young pitchers] now," manager Dusty Baker said. "They don't hurt us that badly, unless they're leadoff walks."

coupling this with what he's said in the past about slow walkers clogging the bases, i've decided that basically, if you walk a slow guy with one or two outs, it's pretty much just like getting him out.

and enough already with the griping about the young pitchers. hill, gooz, marmol, marshall, mateo and ryu have gone 13-21 (8 games under .500). z, rusch, wood, prior, williams and maddux have gone 26-34 (8 games under). the cubs don't suck because of young starting pitchers.

furthermore, the four rookies in the rotation now are 8-13. the four guys they are "replacing" (maddux, rusch, wood, prior) have gone 14-27. i can't believe people buy into this young starting pitching excuse the cubs are selling.

I saw this in Bruce's article today.

I liked his following line:

“That’s what we’ve got to live with, with all of them now,” said manager Dusty Baker, referring to his rookie-laden rotation. “How many did he have, 7, 8? That’s a lot. They don’t hurt as badly unless they’re leadoff walks.”

Marmol issued leadoff walks in each of the first two innings, but the Rockies scored only 1 run.

It's not even tough work to expose dusty for the idiot that he is. I wonder if he even realizes how dumb he is.

Nobody's going to realize that when they're getting paid $4 million.

Miller, a seven-year veteran signed after shoulder surgery, said he didn't know how hard he threw during a six-inning stint Friday for Double-A West Tenn. Baker, however, said reports had Miller's fastball up to 90 m.p.h., a significant increase from the low 80s he was throwing when he began his comeback with low-A Peoria.

"This guy's a man," Baker said of Miller, 29. "I'm excited because he's excited."

'bout time we got some men up here to take the place of these little pansy boys we've got running around. like last night...hill, guzman and mateo: 10 ip, 7 h, 2 r, 8 k's...get me a MAN up here!

Did anyone catch his IV with Ronny before the game last night? Ronny was asking him about Marmol and the rest of the kids and their walk rates. The first thing out of Dusty's mouth was blah, blah, blah...Well, they were walking guys down in the minors well before they got here blah, blah, blah. It was such an obvious attempt to deflect any criticism that could possibly be leveled at him and just move the conversation along. Not well, this is what we are working on, this is the philosophy we are talking to the young guys about, this is what Larry is talking to them about, etc. but hey, man, not my fault dude.

The fun just keeps coming.
