Probable Starters:

Iowa: RHP Jerome Williams (3-4, 4.08 ERA, 75 IP) vs. RHP Francisco Cruceta (9-7, 4.29 ERA)

Daytona: LHP Carlos Perez (3-5, 4.30 ERA, 88 IP)

Peoria: RHP Todd Blackford (8-5, 4.98 ERA, 112 IP) vs. RHP Robert Mosebach (8-5, 2.96)

Boise: RHP Alfredo Francisco (4-1, 5.40 ERA, 28.1 IP)

Mesa: RHP Robert Hernandez (3-0, 1.96 ERA, 23 IP) & RHP Rafael Dolis (0-1, 8.79 ERA, 14.1 IP)

*Take Mesa's probable starter with a grain of salt as they shuffle their pitchers around with frequency.

A roster move happened today in Daytona:

Mendez to Triple-A Iowa

Phelps activated from DL

Phelps had one appearance down in Mesa a couple days ago (got the start and went 2 shutout innings). Good to see Michael back.

Daytona is down 3-1 in the bottom of the 3rd. With 2 outs, the D-Cubs have runners at the corners with Jeff Culpepper due up.

Bah, Culpepper was retired. To the 4th we go, Daytona still down 3-1.

Carlos Perez: 3 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 Ks

Nice to see Ryan Harvey hit another HR. He and Carlos Gomez have hit well since June 1st. Neither guys can walk, of course. Gomez has 1 the last two months.

The Cubs should trade for him, he fits the system.

Harvey has the same number of walks but 40 more K's. Gomez appears to be more of a speedster with less power than Harvey as well.

Never said Gomez was a better hitting prospect, the guy posted a 707 OPS in the Sally League last season and somehow got promoted to Binghamton (wow). He's got solid tools, but little power and patience. I was just making an out of the blue comparison.

Alberto Alburquerque got the start for Mesa and gave up a run, hit, and walk in his two innings, but damn that names gotta make him an elite prospect. Hernandez is in now.

Sorry I misread your post. For some reason I thought you were trying to say he was a power hitter with little patience. I guess that's what I get for being in a hurry and not reading very well.

Boise's up 2-0 in the eigth. Fabian Jimenez Angulo and Jeremy Papelbon have combined to throw a one hitter thus far.

6.0 IP 1 H, 2 BB, 3 K for Angulo

Papelbon struck out one in a perfect inning.

Boise gives up a run in each of the 8th and 9th to let Eugene tie it (one of Papelbon [ERA up to 1.30], one of closer Michael Cooper [the first ER he's given up in the pros]). It's 2-2 going to the bottom of the 11th inning now. Colvin is 0 for 5 with a strikeout, Lansford has a solo HR.

Mesa down 8-2 in the 9th. Hernandez, Castillo and Dolis struggled a bit on the mound, although Dolis got 3 Ks in 1.2 innings. Rundle is 0 for 2 with a walk and a strikeout, Andersen is 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts.

Mesa loses 8-2. Rundle ends up getting another BB, so he went 0 for 2 with 2 BBs and a strikeout.

Boise tied in the bottom of the 12th. Eugene has a runner at second and 2 outs.

Bah, now a 2-run HR wins it. Eugene wins 4-2.
