No Daytona Cubs in the High-A. Probably the only two who had any chance were Gallagher and Veal (and at the time they did this, Veal might not have pitched much in the FSL yet), and it's not surprising that they were passed up by the likes of Homer Bailey, Matt Garza and Kevin Slowey for all the pitching categories.

Also, the manager for Palm Beach's name is Pop Warner.

Ron "Pop" Warner.

Played in the Cardinals minor league system 10 or so years ago. Good guy.

At AAA, Rich Hill checked in with the best breaking pitch in the PCL.

Today, the AA rankings came out. Eric Patterson checked in as the best baserunner in the SL and Chris Walker is the fastest baserunner in the SL. Recently promoted Juan Mateo has the best fastball in the SL! Chris Walker is the best defensive outfielder and, kind of shockingly, Scott Moore comes in as the best defensive thirdbaseman.

How hard does Mateo throw? As hard as Marmol?

I'm impressed by Walker this year. He's been a very steady performer. I didn't know that his defense was rated so highly though. Does he have a strong arm?

I haven't seen Walker since his Boise days, but he got the best jump on flies of anyone that I saw at this level. He also took great paths to the ball and the above combined with his speed meant any fly with any arc to it was caught. His arm is not strong (average), but accurate. Good enough for left, above average for center, you probably wouldn't want him in right though he would catch anything hit near him. The big question is will he get on base enough. I don't see him developing any power.

Walker seemed to me to be a "smart" player, he may make an interesting choice for a coach one of these days.
