With Marshall on the DL already and not knowing the status of Marmol... will Hendry not want to try to trade Glendon to a contender in need of a lhp? He couldn't possibly trade Maddux AND Rusch, could he? I'm not saying it'd be all bad, but that means we'd have to have a rotation with Gooz and Hill and whomever would replace Mad Dog and Prior (when he eventually goes back on the DL...).

What a wonderful season. :wall:

Search the Cubs farm system high and low and find the worst LHP not named Rusch and put him into the starting rotation and you've improved upon a rotation with Glendon in it. They could trade/shoot Glendon right now and it would improve the team. So no, I don't think the injuries should affect them as far as Glendon goes. Maddux, who knows?

I have another question, why would a contender want Glendon Rusch? If anything, the injuries to Marshall and Marmol hurt because it doesn't allow Hendry to trade them (for an offensive upgrade). I'm not advocating they be traded either, but I would think they'd be more sought after then The Fat One.

I don't think anybody would want Rusch, but we can always pray that some GM values him as much as Hendry does. The one thing you could consider is that if Jim wanted to get rid of Glendon, he could force another team to take Rusch in part of a package for players they might actually want. The problem with that is that Jim would have to realize that Glendon is bad.

That may be, but I'd think the additional year on his contract will make him even more difficult to trade (see: Perez, Neifi). That's one thing I think a lot of people are over looking when they advocate trading Neifi and/or Rusch. Even if someone thought they could use them to maybe make a playoff push, they still aren't going to want to pay either one of them $2.5 million next year.

My guess is, as you said, the only way Rusch would be moved was if he was packaged with someone else. Unfortunately, Hendry is likely one of the only GMs around who actually thinks that Rusch has value.

Ah, the "Greater Fool Theory"

Honestly, who's going to want to take Rusch off our hands?

In my opinion, we need to put Hill in the rotation for the rest of the year, no matter how bad he pitches. He needs experiance.

Like others have said, Rusch would have to be included in some multiplayer deal, most likely. ARam, Jones, Rusch, and ? for ARod and a minor leaguer.

Just throwing that out there as an example of who might take him.

Glendon can be moved because left-handed pitching is always way overvalued. Now if Glendon were a righty we'd be stuck with him.

A good example being Jeff Fassero whom the Cards wanted for some reason.

Fassero was pretty decent the year before he was dealt (124 ERA+) and didn't have the contract Rusch has. Glendon had a 94 ERA+ this year, has been worse this season and has a lot of money coming to him.
