Even though the Cubs are obviously out of the race, why not look for the right guys that you need next year right now if a trade comes along that can help the team?

Well I think thats the point of every trading deadline.

 

However, since so many teams are still in the race, I really doubt there will be very many trades at all this season. I think this year will resemble last year, in that the big blockbuster deal at the deadline was......matt lawton? is he even playing this year?

I disagree, Roast. I could see Soriano, Willis, Hunter (depending on his injury) and a few other big names being dealt. Huff, Kearns, and Lopez have already been moved. All of those are bigger deals than Matt Lawton was.

But as was stated, there are so many teams that still have a shot to make the postseason which means few teams will be willing to trade big league players. There will be some trades, and there have been a couple already, and it's unlikely that this years deadline will be as dead as last years, but I don't think there will be a ton of trades. Soriano will get traded but I think Willis stays in Florida.
